Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation will issue commemorative coins for the '2025 APEC Summit'.
The corporation announced on September 5 that it will accept advance reservations for the sale of APEC Summit commemorative coins from September 8 to 26. The coins are being issued to commemorate the APEC Summit, which will be held in Gyeongju this year. This will be the first time in 20 years since 2005 that the APEC Summit is being held in South Korea.
The commemorative coins consist of two types of silver coins, each made of 99.9% pure silver (Ag), with a diameter of 35mm and a weight of 19g. Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation will produce and sell a limited quantity: 1,000 pieces each for the single-coin types, and 6,000 sets for the two-coin set.
The sales price is set at 83,500 won for each single coin and 163,500 won for the two-coin set. The face value of each commemorative coin is 70,000 won.
The obverse side of Silver Coin I features the 'Soseulmin Flower Lattice Door', a traditional window pattern applied to the entrance of Gwaneumjeon Hall at Bulguksa Temple, symbolizing prosperity and connection.
The obverse of Silver Coin II depicts Cheomseongdae, representing the excellence of Korean science and technology and the spirit of innovation. Instead of celestial bodies, 21 dots are connected in a network, together with an image representing the APEC Summit meeting, to express close cooperation among member organizations.
The reverse side of both Silver Coin I and II is engraved with the official emblem of the APEC Summit.
Reservations can be made through the Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation's online shopping mall, as well as at NH Nonghyup Bank and Woori Bank branches and their official websites nationwide.
However, the commemorative coins will not be sold on a first-come, first-served basis but through a lottery reservation system. If the number of applications exceeds the number of coins issued, winners will be selected at random.
If the same recipient or delivery address is duplicated in the application information, only up to 20 single coins and 20 two-coin sets per recipient or address will be eligible for the lottery. If reservations are made using abnormal methods, such as macro programs, the winning status may be canceled or delivery may be restricted.
Seong Changhun, President of Korea Minting and Security Printing Corporation, stated, "I hope these commemorative coins will serve as a symbol to enhance Korea's economic and diplomatic standing and to reaffirm the spirit of cooperation among member organizations. As this is the first APEC Summit to be held in Korea in 20 years, I ask for the public's great interest."
