[Photo] Rice Prices Rise 17% Ahead of Chuseok

According to data compiled by the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation, the average retail price for a 20kg bag of rice stands at 60,294 won, marking a 17.2% increase compared to last year. On September 5, rice is displayed on the shelves at Hanaro Mart Yangjae branch in Seocho-gu, Seoul. The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced that, in light of the recent rice price increases, it plans to raise the ongoing discount on 20kg bags of rice-conducted in cooperation with major retailers since August 1-from 3,000 won to 5,000 won starting September 11.
