Gyeonggi Province will hold an information session for cities and counties on September 5 to discuss the establishment of the Defense Venture Center. Afterward, a site selection competition will be conducted among 10 cities and counties in northern Gyeonggi.

The Defense Venture Center, operated by the Agency for Defense Development, was established to support small and venture businesses entering the defense industry by integrating outstanding private-sector technologies into the defense sector. Currently, there are 11 centers operating nationwide.

The city has outlined a long-term vision to actively support the growth of local small and venture businesses through the Defense Venture Center, with the ultimate goal of being designated as a "Defense Industry Innovation Cluster," a large-scale national project led by the government.

Yangju City is highlighting its transportation accessibility and industrial infrastructure as key strengths. As a central city in northern metropolitan Seoul, it is adjacent to Subway Line 1, the National Route 3 alternative bypass, and the First and Second Metropolitan Beltways. The city’s transportation network is expected to be further enhanced with the planned extension of Subway Line 7 and the opening of the GTX-C line.

In addition, the Gyeonggi Yangju Technovalley, currently under construction in the Majon-dong area with a total area of 218,000 square meters, is scheduled for completion in 2026. The Technovalley is an advanced industrial complex where industry, research, and education functions are organically integrated, creating an ecosystem for future-oriented industries.

In particular, with numerous military units stationed in the city, there is an environment where technologies developed at the Technovalley can be rapidly validated in collaboration with the military.

An official from Yangju City stated, "Yangju City offers optimal conditions for attracting the Defense Venture Center in terms of location and industrial environment," adding, "We are determined to secure the center and become a key city for the future defense industry."
