"Please Help Me": 10-Year-Old Boy Walks Into Convenience Store... Part-Time Worker Helps Reunite Him With Grandmother

Part-timer Responds Calmly
Offers Banana Milk to Comfort Frightened Child

The story of a 10-year-old child who was safely reunited with his family thanks to the help of a convenience store employee has recently come to light.

According to the Daejeon Police Agency on September 4, at around 7 p.m. on July 12, a 10-year-old boy, referred to as A, entered a convenience store in Seo-gu, Daejeon and asked for help, saying, "I am lost." A told B, a woman in her twenties who was working at the time, "I was walking with my grandmother and my older sister, but I lost my way," and asked, "Please help me."

To comfort the frightened boy, B told him to "pick out something you want to eat" and bought him a banana milk. She then tried to contact his older sister using the phone number A provided, but was unable to reach her, so she immediately called the police for assistance. When the police arrived at the convenience store, they reassured A and contacted his guardian again. Eventually, A was safely reunited with his grandmother, who had been looking for him. A hugged his grandmother, and the family repeatedly thanked the police for their help.

The convenience store where B worked was designated as a 'Child Safety Protection House.' This is a system in which convenience stores or pharmacies voluntarily participate in child protection activities, temporarily sheltering children in danger and handing them over to the police. Currently, there are about 11,000 Child Safety Protection Houses operating nationwide.

The convenience store owner had often advised B, "Since there is a school nearby, always be kind to children, and if they are in danger or ask for help, do your best to assist them." Regarding this incident, the owner said, "B responded more calmly than I expected," and added, "It seems she followed the Child Safety Protection House manual."
