Apple is planning to launch its own artificial intelligence (AI)-powered web search tool, Bloomberg News reported on September 3 (local time).
According to sources, Apple is internally developing a new system codenamed "World Knowledge Answers," which is expected to be integrated into its AI voice assistant, Siri. The sources also stated that Apple is discussing adding this technology to its Safari web browser and the Spotlight search feature on the iPhone home screen, with the goal of launching it in the spring of 2026.
This move is expected to put Apple in competition with services like ChatGPT and Google Search's AI Overview, as it will operate in a similar manner. However, it is known that some of the core technology enabling the new Siri may likely be provided by Google.
Apple's new search feature will go beyond simply presenting text, offering various formats such as photos and videos within a single result. Additionally, it will provide an AI-based summarization system to help users understand results more quickly and accurately than the current Siri. While the existing Siri can answer basic questions, it relies on services like ChatGPT for more complex queries or general knowledge searches.
Apple is planning a major overhaul so that Siri can better handle user requests by utilizing personal data and on-screen content, and allow for more precise device control through voice commands. Although the upgraded Siri was initially scheduled for release at the end of last year, the timeline has been delayed, and it is now expected to launch in early 2026.
