Tokyo Electron Korea (President Noh Tae-woo), the Korean subsidiary of Tokyo Electron Limited (TEL), a global leader in the semiconductor manufacturing equipment industry, announced that it held a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Yongin Office on September 3 at the Wonsam General Industrial Complex in Jukneung-ri, Wonsam-myeon, Yongin City, Gyeonggi Province. The event was attended by executives from both the headquarters and the local office, as well as construction personnel.
The Yongin Office is scheduled for completion in January 2027 and will consist of an office building for employees and an R&D center (TEL Technology Center Korea-Y) that will house a fab. The office building will have a construction area of 2,611 square meters, a total floor area of 14,422 square meters, and six above-ground floors, accommodating up to 500 employees. Additionally, the TEL Technology Center Korea-Y R&D center will have a construction area of 7,798 square meters, a total floor area of 28,168 square meters, and five above-ground floors.
The new TEL Technology Center Korea-Y at the Yongin Office will be Tokyo Electron Korea's fourth R&D center and is designed to replicate the structure of customers' mass production fabs. This approach takes into account that even minor structural changes in advanced semiconductor manufacturing environments can affect yield, with the goal of conducting technology development and validation under conditions identical to actual mass production environments.
The cleanroom will initially cover 500 pyeong (approximately 1,650 square meters) and has been designed with flexibility in mind, allowing for expansion up to 1,000 pyeong based on customer development needs.
The company aims to achieve Net Zero (carbon neutrality) and RE100 (100% renewable energy usage) at the Yongin Office by planning to introduce solar power generation and a Building Energy Monitoring System (BEMS), which visualizes power consumption within the building and controls HVAC and lighting systems. In addition, the company is preparing to implement a direct power purchase agreement (PPA) with renewable energy producers.
Noh Tae-woo, President of Tokyo Electron Korea, stated, "The construction of the Yongin Office marks an important milestone that brings us closer to our goal of becoming Korea's top supplier by maximizing customer value. Through continuous innovation based on close collaboration with our customers, we will lead the development of advanced technologies, strengthen the competitiveness of Korea's semiconductor industry, and contribute to the growth of the local economy."
