Kia has surpassed a cumulative sales milestone of 1 million units in Australia, 37 years after entering the market.

On the 3rd (local time), Kia held a "1 Million Units Sold Celebration" at the Motorama dealership in Queensland, Australia, the company announced on the 4th. The ceremony was attended by Dennis Piccoli, Chief Operating Officer of Kia Australia, Patrick Rafter, Kia Australia Brand Ambassador, and James Allendorf, the purchaser of the 1 millionth vehicle, among others.

Kia first entered the Australian market in 1988 and established its sales subsidiary in 2006, reaching a cumulative sales figure of 500,000 units in 2018. This year, just seven years later, Kia achieved the milestone of 1 million cumulative sales.

At the time the subsidiary was established, Kia's market share in Australia was 2.2%. As of July this year, the cumulative market share has risen to 6.9%, more than tripling. In 2022, Kia ranked third in annual sales by brand and first in dealer satisfaction, and in 2024, annual sales surpassed 80,000 units for the first time.

The best-selling model was the Cerato (now K4), with a total of 200,780 units sold, followed by the Sportage with 188,159 units, the Rio (discontinued) with 166,062 units, and the Carnival with 123,854 units.

Kia is strengthening its brand competitiveness in Australia by introducing a diverse vehicle lineup. This includes the Picanto, which leads the compact car market; the Carnival, established as the best-selling minivan in Australia; and the expansion of its electrified lineup with models such as the EV3 and EV5. Additionally, Kia has expanded its presence across various segments with the Tasman pickup truck, which was launched for the first time in April.

Damien Meredith, Chief Executive Officer of Kia Australia, stated, "Reaching 1 million cumulative new car sales is a testament to the efforts each dealership has invested in the Kia brand. We could not have reached this milestone without customers who choose Kia vehicles without hesitation when purchasing a new car."

Dennis Piccoli, Chief Operating Officer of Kia Australia, said, "Kia vehicles have evolved, and perceptions of the brand have changed. These two factors have played a crucial role in Kia's continued growth. Kia is developing in a highly competitive and challenging environment in Australia, and with an exciting new product lineup ahead, reaching 1 million cumulative sales marks a new starting point."
