At approximately 11:56 a.m. on September 3, a Brazilian man in his 30s, identified as Mr. A, fell into the sea while working on a ship at a large shipyard in Ajou-dong, Geoje, South Gyeongsang Province.
Upon receiving the report, the Changwon Coast Guard dispatched a patrol vessel, coastal rescue boats from Jangseungpo and Sinhang Police Stations, and the Changwon Rescue Team to the scene, conducting a search using a fire department drone and other resources.
Mr. A was found in a state of cardiac arrest near the accident site at approximately 1:27 p.m. and was urgently transported to a hospital, but ultimately passed away.
The vessel in question is understood to be a 150,000-ton offshore plant ship, ordered by a Brazilian shipowner, and was scheduled for delivery soon.
The Changwon Coast Guard is investigating the exact circumstances of the accident, believing that Mr. A, who was a supervisor for the shipowner, fell after a ship structure bent during a heavy load structural test. Witnesses and those present at the scene are being questioned as part of the investigation.
