266 Million Views and Counting
Three Consecutive Weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Chart
The animated film "K-Pop Demon Hunters" has achieved record-breaking box office success, becoming the most-watched title on Netflix.
According to the official Netflix website Tudum on September 3, the cumulative number of views for "K-Pop Demon Hunters" has reached 266 million. By adding the view counts from last week (August 25-31), it surpassed both Season 1 of "Squid Game" (265 million) and Season 1 of "Wednesday" (252 million), taking the top spot in Netflix's all-time rankings for both movies and shows. Netflix calculates the most-watched films and shows based on cumulative views over the first 91 days after release.
"K-Pop Demon Hunters" was released on June 20 and still has time remaining in its counting period. Unless another global hit emerges, it is expected to maintain its number one position for the time being.
The film is also enjoying popularity outside of Netflix. Just over two months after its release, a special "sing-along" screening was held in U.S. theaters on August 23-24, where audiences sang along with the movie, continuing the excitement. The original soundtrack "Golden" has also proven its global appeal by topping the Billboard Hot 100 main singles chart for three consecutive weeks.
"K-Pop Demon Hunters" tells the story of the K-pop idol group Huntrix, who defeat evil spirits and protect the world through their songs. The film has been praised by audiences for its intriguing combination of K-pop idols, Korean shamanism, and other uniquely Korean elements.
