Gwangju Bukgu will hold a proclamation ceremony on September 4 at 5:00 p.m. in the Jeonnam National University Business District to celebrate the designation of the largest number of alley-type shopping districts in the country.
According to Bukgu on September 2, this event has been organized to publicly announce that alley-type shopping districts have been designated throughout the entire district and to revitalize local commercial areas. It will be held in conjunction with the opening ceremony of the "Friday and Saturday Night Market" hosted by the Jeonnam National University Business District.
The proclamation ceremony, held under the theme "A New Beginning, Shining Alleys," will be attended by Mayor Moon In, city and district council members, merchants, residents, and approximately 200 participants. The event will include a screening of a video about alley-type shopping districts, the official proclamation of the highest number of designations nationwide, and a card section performance.
Since the enactment of the legal basis for alley-type shopping districts in 2020, Bukgu designated the Jeonnam National University back gate and Hwanggye Village commercial areas as the "first" shopping districts in Gwangju. Since then, Bukgu has aimed to establish at least one alley-type shopping district in each of its 27 neighborhoods, easing designation criteria, holding resident briefings, and supporting joint marketing efforts. As a result, a total of 123 locations (13,440 stores), the highest number in the country, have been designated.
The "Friday and Saturday Night Market," which will follow the proclamation ceremony, will be held a total of 12 times until November 8. Under the theme "Connecting with Wraps, Enjoying with Flavor," various food booths such as Lettuce Wrap Zone, Korean Food Zone, and Youth Zone, as well as busking performances, will be offered. In addition, prizes will be given to visitors through online channel certification events.
