Iksan City Secures Record-High 1.007 Trillion Won in Next Year’s Government Budget Proposal

Promotion of Projects Including Buffer Storage Facilities for Industrial Complexes

Iksan City in North Jeolla Province announced on September 2 that it has secured a record-high 1.007 trillion won in national funding under the 2026 government budget proposal. This marks an increase of 100.4 billion won compared to this year’s government proposal of 900.3 billion won.

The city made active efforts to secure additional national funding, surpassing the 1 trillion won mark for the first time based on the amount reflected in the government budget proposal, following 882.1 billion won in 2024 and 900.3 billion won in 2025.

Mayor Jung Heon-yul and all city employees systematically identified new projects and carried out comprehensive lobbying efforts in line with the ministries’ budget planning schedules. In addition, close cooperation with Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province and political circles, centered around the Sejong Office, played a crucial role. In particular, local National Assembly members contributed by maintaining frequent communication and support from the initial stages of ministry budget planning through to the Ministry of Economy and Finance’s review process.

Key new projects reflected in the government proposal include: construction of dormitories for workers at the National Food Cluster (260 million won); establishment of the Design Promotion Agency (100 million won); restoration of the ecological corridor in Yonggi-ri, Nangsang-myeon (180 million won); and installation of a public livestock manure treatment facility (500 million won), totaling 14.7 billion won for new projects.

Ongoing projects amount to a total of 986 billion won, including: construction of the Mireuksa Information Center (2.8 billion won); construction of the National Road No. 27 bypass (44.4 billion won); development of the National Food Cluster (22.5 billion won); and buffer storage facilities for industrial complexes (10.2 billion won).

The government budget proposal for next year was submitted to the National Assembly on this day. It will be finalized in December after review and adjustments by each standing committee and the Special Committee on Budget and Accounts. Accordingly, the city plans to focus its administrative resources on ensuring that the projects reflected in the government proposal are maintained during the National Assembly review process, while also seeking to include additional projects that were not initially reflected.

In particular, the city will actively respond to ensure that essential projects for Iksan’s long-term development-such as facility improvements at KTX Iksan Station, construction of the National Iksan Food Museum, and creation of a disaster safety industry cluster-are included.

To this end, the city will conduct policy inquiries through local and related lawmakers during the standing committee and budget committee reviews, while continuing lobbying efforts targeting ministries and political circles.

Mayor Jung Heon-yul stated, "Despite challenging circumstances, we made strategic budget diplomacy efforts to ensure that projects essential for regional development and citizens’ quality of life were included. We will not be complacent with the government proposal but will make every effort at the National Assembly stage to secure 1 trillion won in national funding for the third consecutive year."
