The city of Gwangju is making steady progress in opening roads along the construction section of Phase 1 (City Hall to Gwangju Station) of the Urban Railway Line 2 project. As of the end of August, the city has raised the road opening rate in the construction area to 56%, and plans to open most sections by December 22.

According to the city on September 2, the road opening rate stood at 6.3 kilometers, or 43%, as of the end of July. However, after completing road paving and traffic safety facility improvements on three sections totaling 1.8 kilometers, including the area around Sangmu Station, the rate increased to 8.1 kilometers, or 56%, as of the end of August.

In particular, an 800-meter section of Geumhwa-ro, which is used by athletes traveling between the World Archery Championships stadium and their accommodations, has been fully opened after the removal of steel road plates. However, a 600-meter section in front of the archery range experienced construction delays due to heavy rainfall in July and is now scheduled to open at the end of November.

To ensure smooth transportation for the athletes, the city has improved the appearance and safety of the roads by removing fences and repainting steel road plates. In addition, to reduce noise, old steel plates have been replaced, and further maintenance such as resurfacing is being carried out to enhance the overall traffic environment.

Safety measures are also being thoroughly implemented. The city is strengthening safety inspections and road paving quality management for each section, and is proactively installing temporary median barriers and repainting lane markings to ensure safety.

Oh Younggeol, Director of the Urban Railway Construction Headquarters, stated, "Urban Railway Line 2 is a core project for transforming Gwangju's public transportation system, but it has caused significant inconvenience to citizens during construction. We will continue to open roads sequentially through the end of the year, while also creating a safe and pleasant road environment."
