Seongnam Mulbit Garden Music Hall to Open on the 5th... Reborn as Seongnam's Landmark Music Hall

Seongnam Mulbit Garden Music Hall Opens
A New Cultural and Relaxation Space Created by Revitalizing the Former Gumi-dong Sewage Treatment Plant

Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor: Shin Sangjin) will hold an opening ceremony for the "Seongnam Mulbit Garden Music Hall" at 5:30 p.m. on September 5. The music hall has been created by remodeling the former sewage treatment plant building in Gumi-dong, Bundang-gu.

This project was promoted as the "Gumi-dong Sewage Treatment Plant Phase 1 Regeneration Project." The site covers a total area of 4,325 square meters and includes the music hall, a cafe, and rest areas. Notably, as it is adjacent to Tancheon, a source of pride for Seongnam, it is expected to become a new cultural and relaxation hotspot where citizens can enjoy leisure during the day and scenic night views in the evening.

The opening ceremony will take place outdoors on the lawn for about 40 minutes. It will begin with a pre-ceremony performance by the Seongnam City Arts Troupe Choir, followed by a progress report, a timelapse video showing the transformation of the old sewage treatment plant’s intake pump building into the music hall, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Any Seongnam citizen can participate in the event without prior registration.

Mayor Shin Sangjin stated, "I hope this key space, where Tancheon and Dongmakcheon meet, becomes a cultural and artistic hub beloved by all citizens, uniting culture, music, and the local community."

The city preserved as much of the original building’s structure as possible, revitalizing the sense of place and historical value of each space, and transforming it into an open cultural venue accessible to everyone.

Inside the music hall, the first floor houses a multipurpose hall, an instrument storage room, a sound control room, and a nursing room. The basement features four practice rooms, office space, and a mechanical room. Outdoors, there is a lawn, a music promenade, and a rooftop sky garden, among other spaces. The parking lot accommodates 66 vehicles.

Mayor Shin added, "The Seongnam Mulbit Garden Music Hall is a successful example of transforming outdated facilities into future-oriented cultural spaces, and it will greatly contribute to the development of Seongnam’s arts and culture. We will not stop here, but will further develop this site into a complex cultural town of global standards, including a world-class art museum, through the second phase of the master plan."
