Sejong "Deep-Rooted Store" Designated Business Caught Violating Country-of-Origin Labeling

A business that was selected as a "Deep-Rooted Store" in Sejong is expected to have its designation revoked due to a violation of country-of-origin labeling regulations.

According to the city of Sejong on September 1, the business in question was found to have labeled imported sub-ingredients as domestically produced and sold processed foods accordingly. This was discovered during a surprise country-of-origin inspection conducted on direct sales stores in Sejong by the Chungnam branch of the National Agricultural Products Quality Management Service on August 26.

On August 27, the city immediately suspended the supply of the processed foods in question to school meal programs and halted all sales and shipments through the Singsing Market. The supply to school meal programs was suspended as soon as the violation was detected.

Sejong Local Food Co., Ltd. also stopped selling the relevant products at Singsing Market on the day of the discovery, and from August 29, completely suspended shipments from the business.

The city plans to decide whether to revoke the business's "Deep-Rooted Store" designation through a selection committee review. In addition, to prevent recurrence, the city will strengthen education and guidance for public meal suppliers and Singsing Market shippers.
