Steve Seungjun Yoo Shares First Thoughts After Legal Victory: "Only After Losing Did I Realize What Matters"

Posted Video After Winning Third Visa Lawsuit
"Family Is My Blessing"
Expresses Gratitude to His Wife

Singer Steve Seungjun Yoo (You Seungjun, 48) has shared his thoughts following his victory in the third lawsuit he filed to overturn the decision to deny him a visa.

On August 31, Yoo posted a video and message titled "You Seungjun Life Talk" on his YouTube channel. In the video description, he wrote, "If there is the greatest blessing in my life, it is having a loving wife and family," adding, "In that sense, I have gained everything. Even when I faced heartbreak, my heart was always full and grateful."

He continued, "How wonderful would it be to learn about life without mistakes or regrets? Life is about gradually realizing things as wrinkles and white beard increase. No one is an exception," and expressed, "It is only after losing something that you realize its value, which makes me a truly foolish person." He added, "It hasn't been easy, but I have made it this far. Is there really an easy life in this world?" and lamented, "It is unfortunate to see the reality of the media distorting facts and diminishing sincerity by any means."

In the video, he also expressed deep affection for his family. Regarding his wife in particular, he said, "She held me tightly when I was at my lowest. When I was going through the hardest time in my life, I had my first son, who became a guiding light for me." He went on, "In life, everyone has their own perspective. In the past, I lived with a sense of pride and judged others, but I realized others were better than me. After experiencing hardships, I stopped judging others." He confessed, "I used to sharply judge and criticize others based on my own standards, but looking back, I realize I knew nothing about their lives. I now see how ignorant I was."

Previously, on August 28, the Seoul Administrative Court's Division 5 ruled in favor of Yoo in the first trial of his lawsuit against the Consul General of the Republic of Korea in Los Angeles (LA) to overturn the denial of his visa. The court stated, "The disadvantages suffered by the plaintiff due to the visa denial far outweigh the public interest gained, constituting an abuse and deviation of discretionary power that violates the principle of proportionality." However, the court emphasized, "This conclusion does not mean that the plaintiff's past actions were appropriate."

Yoo debuted in 1997 and enjoyed nationwide popularity. In 2002, just before his mandatory military service, he left the country for an overseas performance and then acquired U.S. citizenship, sparking controversy over military draft evasion. As a result, the Ministry of Justice banned his entry into Korea under Article 11, Paragraph 1 of the Immigration Control Act. Yoo then attempted to enter Korea with an Overseas Korean (F-4) visa, but after the LA Consulate General denied his visa application, he filed his first lawsuit. Although he lost in the first and second trials, he won at the Supreme Court. Nevertheless, when the LA Consulate General again denied his visa, he filed a second lawsuit and won at the Supreme Court. After the consulate once more denied his visa, he filed a third lawsuit and won again.
