Financial Supervisory Service Launches "One-Stop Inquiry Service" to Combat Voice Phishing Impersonating Card Delivery

Voice Phishing Scams Using Card Delivery on the Rise
Instant Verification Available Through the One-Stop Card Delivery Inquiry Service if Fraud is Suspected

Financial Supervisory Service Launches "One-Stop Inquiry Service" to Combat Voice Phishing Impersonating Card Delivery

As voice phishing scams that use card delivery as bait continue to occur, the Financial Supervisory Service announced on September 2 that it has created a service allowing consumers to more easily check card delivery information.

The Financial Supervisory Service explained that, starting today, all cards issued in South Korea-including both credit and debit cards-can be checked at once from the delivery stage through the Korea Financial Telecommunications and Clearings Institute's "My Cards at a Glance" service.

Previously, the "My Cards at a Glance" service only allowed users to check cards that had already been received and registered. Now, the service has been expanded to allow users to check cards from the delivery stage.

This change comes in response to the recent surge in voice phishing schemes that use card delivery as a pretext to approach victims. A representative from the Financial Supervisory Service explained, "Until now, there was no simple way for individuals to verify whether a card issued in their name was actually being delivered. As a result, many people ended up calling fake card company call center numbers provided by scammers, which led to voice phishing incidents."

Accordingly, the Financial Supervisory Service and the Korea Financial Telecommunications and Clearings Institute, together with card companies and others, have built a system that allows consumers to easily check card delivery information in one place via mobile and website platforms. On mobile, this can be done through the Account Info-Integrated Account Management App, and on the website, through the Integrated Account Information Management Service.

If a user confirms that a card company is being impersonated through the card delivery inquiry, a linked page is also provided to immediately report and suspend the scammer's phone number. By clicking the "Report Phone Number" menu, users are directed to the voice phishing phone number reporting page, and reported numbers are suspended after a verification process.

The representative advised, "If consumers receive a notification about a card delivery they did not request, they should immediately suspect a scam. Never call the card company call center number provided by the delivery person; instead, please confirm through the one-stop card delivery inquiry service."
