Nominations Open Until September 12
Honoring Citizens and Organizations for Local Community Development
Suncheon City in South Jeolla Province announced on September 1 that it will accept nominations for the "2025 Citizen Award" until September 12. The award is intended for individuals and organizations that have contributed to the development of the local community and have brought honor to the region.
Eligibility is granted to individuals or organizations that have significantly contributed to enhancing the reputation of Suncheon or to the development of the local community in areas such as regional development, industrial economy, social welfare, culture and arts, or other fields. Nominees must be residents or organizations that have been based in Suncheon for more than three years.
However, if a person is recognized for special achievements that have elevated the city's reputation domestically or internationally, they may be selected even if their place of registration or address is not in Suncheon.
The recipient will be selected according to the "Suncheon Citizen Award Ordinance." The selection will be reviewed by the Suncheon Citizen's Day Event Promotion Committee, and the mayor will make the final decision, presenting the award to one recipient at the Citizen's Day event on October 15.
Last year, the "Suncheon Citizen Award" was given to archer Nam Suhyeon. As a member of Suncheon City Hall, Nam Suhyeon won a gold medal in the women's team event and a silver medal in the women's individual event at the Paris Olympics in France, greatly enhancing the pride and reputation of Suncheon and making significant contributions to the development of sports in the city.
A city official stated, "We hope that many citizens who have quietly dedicated themselves to local development and served as role models in the community will be nominated. We ask for your keen interest and active nominations."
