Special Lecture on September 3
Marking a New Beginning for Choi Eungchun at Dongguk University
Dongguk University announced on September 1 that it has appointed Choi Eungchun, former head of the National Heritage Administration, as a distinguished professor in the Department of Art History.
Choi, a renowned expert in Buddhist art, has primarily focused his research on metal crafts. He graduated from Dongguk University and previously served as the inaugural director of the National Chuncheon Museum, as well as the head of both the Asian Art Department and the Art Department at the National Museum of Korea. In 2008, he was appointed as a professor at his alma mater and also served as the director of the Dongguk University Museum. He has also been the chairman of the Overseas Korean Cultural Heritage Foundation. In 2022, he was appointed as the head of the Cultural Heritage Administration (now the National Heritage Administration), leading cultural heritage policy and administration for approximately three years until recently.
Choi will mark the beginning of his new journey with a special lecture on September 3 at the Future Convergence Seminar Room on the third floor of Hyehwa Hall at Dongguk University. The lecture, titled "From Cultural Properties to National Heritage - The New Future Value of K-Heritage," will explain the significance and the changes brought by the transition to the national heritage system after more than 60 years.
