Dongseo University College of Design to Host International Design Symposium 'DESIGN SUMMIT Busan 2025'

DESIGN SUMMIT Busan 2025 to Be Held at the Cultural Center Concert Hall on September 2
Global Design Leaders Gather to Discuss "Designing Empathy & Futures"

The College of Design at Dongseo University (President Jang Jeguk) will host the international design symposium 'DESIGN SUMMIT Busan (SDSB) 2025' at the Cultural Center Concert Hall on September 2.

This symposium, under the theme 'Designing Empathy & Futures,' will invite global design leaders to create an opportunity for next-generation designers who will lead the future of design in Busan to interact and exchange ideas.

The symposium will bring together domestic and international design leaders, public sector officials, and experts from industry and academia to engage in in-depth discussions on how design can contribute to human life and social development, with a focus on the future of design and the value of empathy.

In particular, Busan laid the foundation to become a global design city by successfully winning the bid to host the World Design Capital (WDC 2028) in July 2025.

At this significant moment, this event-held at Dongseo University, a leading design-specialized university in Busan and the only World Design Organization (WDO) member institution in Korea-is expected to serve as a creative platform connecting global design discourse with regional innovation and mutual growth.

The keynote speakers include Professor Ico Migliore from Politecnico di Milano in Italy, Professor Lee Geonpyo, Dean of the School of Design at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, David Stowell, founder of Smart Design, and Professor Na Geon, Chief Designer of Busan Metropolitan City.

The subsequent open floor Q&A session will provide an opportunity for these global design leaders to freely communicate and exchange opinions with local students and scholars.

Jang Jooyoung, Dean of the College of Design at Dongseo University, commented on the symposium, stating, "As a specialized university leading innovation in design education in Busan, Asia, and beyond, Dongseo University hopes to drive the development of the local cultural industry and contribute to Busan’s growth as the design hub of Asia."

This SDSB 2025 has been planned to expand the Asia Design College Consortium (ADCC) platform and is supported by the Dongseo University RISE Project Group.
