The Korea Forest Service announced on September 1 that it will host the 35th National Youth Forest Love Contest from September 1 to October 13, 2025.
The contest is designed to help young people living in the era of climate crisis newly recognize the value of forests and the environment, and to grow into individuals who actively protect them.
The contest themes include: ▲ the beauty and preciousness of forests, the environment, and life; ▲ our efforts for carbon neutrality (such as preventing wildfires and landslides, and the sustainable use of timber).
Participants can submit entries in four categories: drawing, essay writing, webtoon, and shorts. The webtoon and shorts categories have been newly established this year to provide opportunities for youth to intuitively express creative ideas in digital formats they are familiar with.
After the contest deadline, the Korea Forest Service will select 200 outstanding works through expert evaluation, including: ▲ Grand Prize (Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Award, 2 recipients), ▲ Excellence Prize (Korea Forest Service Commissioner Award, 18 recipients), and ▲ Merit Prize (Superintendent of Education Awards from Seoul, Daejeon, Gyeonggi, Gangwon, Jeonbuk, and Gyeongbuk, 21 recipients). The results will be announced in November 2025.
The contest is open to all youth aged 7 to 18. Entries can be submitted through the Korea Youth Forest Love Organization website. For more details, please refer to the Korea Youth Forest Love Organization.
Song Junho, Director General of Forest Welfare at the Korea Forest Service, stated, "We hope this contest will give youth an opportunity to reflect on the importance of nature and life," adding, "Furthermore, we expect that the creative ideas of young people will contribute to overcoming the climate crisis and to preventing forest disasters such as wildfires and landslides."
