Formation and Operation of Joint Dedicated Collection Teams by Province and Local Governments
Jeollanam-do will launch a strong crackdown on tax delinquencies starting this month to boost tax revenue, in response to a sharp increase in fiscal demand for revitalizing the livelihoods of residents and the local economy.
Jeollanam-do annually discloses the list of delinquent taxpayers who have been overdue for more than one year and owe over 10 million won, and imposes travel bans on those owing over 30 million won who are considered at risk of fleeing overseas. The province also supports city and county efforts to collect delinquent taxes.
The province plans to form and operate joint dedicated collection teams with cities and counties, establishing a continuous collection system to carry out intensive tax delinquency enforcement.
Additionally, Jeollanam-do and local governments will regularly conduct province-wide crackdowns targeting areas with high vehicle concentration, focusing on impounding license plates of vehicles with overdue automobile taxes and fines.
For high-value delinquents who intentionally avoid paying taxes while maintaining a lavish lifestyle, the province will pursue strong enforcement actions such as home searches, detention, and the cancellation of fraudulent transfers through on-site investigations.
In the first half of this year, Jeollanam-do collected 33.2 billion won, an increase of 4.2 billion won compared to the same period last year. This increase is mainly attributed to customized collection activities, which were carried out through joint analysis of high-value delinquents by the province and local governments at the beginning of the year.
Park Seongyeol, head of the Jeollanam-do Tax Administration Division, stated, "Through thorough management of high-value delinquents, we will maintain fairness with diligent taxpayers, foster a sound tax-paying culture, and expand local tax revenue by collecting overdue taxes."
