As electronic main entrances have become commonplace in multi-family housing due to enhanced security measures, there has been a growing number of cases where fire trucks arrive on site but miss the golden time for response due to entry delays. To address this issue, a "Main Entrance Emergency Access System" is now being fully implemented.

The Daejeon Fire Headquarters has introduced the "Main Entrance Emergency Access System" for multi-family residential complexes in the city to ensure firefighters can enter disaster scenes-such as fires, rescues, and medical emergencies-without delay.

This system allows firefighters to use an RFID electronic tag, which functions as a "master key," to instantly open the main entrance. As a result, the time required to access the scene is significantly reduced, which is expected to greatly improve both life-saving operations and the effectiveness of initial fire suppression.

From May to June of this year, the Daejeon Fire Headquarters worked to register 165 complexes equipped with main entrance access systems among multi-family residential buildings with more than 300 units in the city.

So far, 93 complexes have completed registration, achieving a registration rate of 56.4%. This far exceeds the National Fire Agency's target rates of 20% for 2025 and 40% for 2026.

For some complexes where registration is difficult, alternative measures are being implemented in cooperation with residents and management offices, such as sharing access codes and issuing entry cards. In addition, in the fourth quarter of this year, the system's stability will be further enhanced through operational inspections and supplementary actions.

Kim Moon-yong, Chief of the Daejeon Fire Headquarters, stated, "Delays in main entrance access are a major obstacle that can cause us to miss the golden time in disaster response. We will continue to work with unregistered complexes to further increase the registration rate and do our utmost to create a residential environment where citizens can feel safe."
