East Yongin IC Project Passes Feasibility Study
City Targets Expressway Connection Approval This Year
Construction Scheduled to Begin in 2028
Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on September 1 that the project to establish the "East Yongin IC (tentative name)" on the Sejong-Pocheon Expressway has recently passed the feasibility study conducted by the Korea Local Administration Research Institute.
The institute concluded that the project is feasible at the final report meeting of the feasibility study held recently, and the study is scheduled to be completed on September 3.
According to the city, the institute analyzed in this study that the construction of the East Yongin IC is sufficiently economically and policy-wise justified, citing improved expressway accessibility for local residents and alleviation of traffic congestion due to the development of a logistics complex.
This study was conducted in accordance with the "Local Finance Act" for projects with a total project cost of at least 50 billion won.
This project had already passed the feasibility evaluation by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in June, and with the recent approval from the Korea Local Administration Research Institute, the project is expected to gain further momentum.
To this end, the city is proceeding with follow-up procedures, including applying to Korea Expressway Corporation for permission to connect to the expressway.
The East Yongin IC is planned to be built in the areas of Mapyeong-dong and Songmun/Jubuk-ri in Yangji-myeon, Cheoin-gu, and is designed to provide access via the planned urban road (Jungno 1-1) connected to National Road No. 42. The estimated daily traffic demand is 15,260 vehicles. The total project cost of 88.8 billion won will be fully borne by Yongin Joongshim Co., Ltd., the developer of the "Yongin International Logistics 4.0" complex.
Lee Sangil, Mayor of Yongin, stated, "With the addition of the East Yongin IC following the North Yongin and South Yongin ICs, not only will expressway accessibility in the Cheoin-gu area improve, but transportation convenience for the semiconductor belt in the Yongin area will also be greatly enhanced."
The city plans to obtain the connection permit within the year through close cooperation with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and Korea Expressway Corporation, and to begin construction of the East Yongin IC in 2028 after completing the necessary procedures.
