Forty Titles Produced Through Global IP Production Support
Bernard Werber's "Ants" Also Adapted as a Webtoon
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Creative Content Agency announced on September 1 that the webtoon "Marone Hujak" ranked first overall for three consecutive days immediately after its release on KakaoPage.
This marks the first achievement of the "Global Webtoon Intellectual Property (IP) Production Support" initiative. This newly established project aims to support the global expansion of the webtoon industry, with participation from twelve production companies, including Daon Creative, which produced "Marone Hujak," The Grim Entertainment, known for "Lookism," and Redice Studio, the creator of "Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint."
Following "Marone Hujak," several other titles have begun serialization, such as "Dangmunjeon" (Munpia), "The Old Prisoner Lives in Solitude" (Studio Onepick), and "Company Contract Romance" (Studio JHS). Additionally, seven more works, including "1 Million Won per Second" (Manhwa Family), "Tale of the Skeleton Messenger" (Jaedam Media), and "The Iron Emperor" (To You Dream), are scheduled for release.
The Korea Creative Content Agency plans to unveil twenty new titles within this year and up to forty works on major platforms by the first half of next year. Among these is "Gaemi," a webtoon adaptation by Kenaz based on the original novel by renowned French author Bernard Werber. Werber is scheduled to attend a production press conference at Hotel Crescendo in Seoul on September 3, where he will share his views on Korean webtoons.
The Korea Creative Content Agency will continue to support the stable serialization of supported works while also organizing opportunities for direct interaction with readers, such as the "World Webtoon Festival" in October. Lee Hyunju, Director of the Content IP Promotion Division at the Korea Creative Content Agency, stated, "We will continue to discover the next generation of hit titles and further expand our presence in the global market."
