Threatening Faxes Sent to Busan Girls' High Schools
Over 1,000 Students Evacuated After Bomb Threats
Similar Incidents Reported in Incheon and Seoul

"Pressure Cooker Bombs Installed"...Threatening Fax Sent to Busan High Schools On the 29th, a report was received that an explosive device had been installed at a high school in Busan, and the fire authorities are conducting a search. Yonhap News

There was an incident in which students were evacuated after reports were received that explosive devices had been installed at high schools in Busan and other regions.

According to police and other authorities on August 30, a threatening fax claiming that explosives had been installed was sent to the teachers' office of High School A in Dong-gu, Busan the previous day.

The document stated, "Several highly lethal bombs using pressure cookers have been installed inside the high school," and "They are scheduled to explode this afternoon."

A similar situation occurred at High School B in Nam-gu, Busan.

Both of these schools are girls' high schools, and it is reported that the threatening faxes were sent from Japan.

After the 112 emergency call was received, more than 1,000 students and staff members-including about 500 from High School A and 600 from High School B-were evacuated to nearby churches and other locations.

The police are currently investigating the exact circumstances of the incident.

Similar chaos occurred at Ganghwa High School and Gajwa High School in Incheon, where threatening documents claiming that explosives had been installed were received and students were evacuated.

Around 10 a.m. the previous day, a fax stating that "explosives have been installed" was received at Ganghwa High School in Ganghwa-gun and Gajwa High School in Seo-gu. Both schools sent all students home and requested a police response. No explosives were found at either school.

Previously, on August 28, threatening faxes claiming that explosives had been installed were received at seven high schools in Seoul. The police believe these faxes are the same as those recently sent in the name of a Japanese lawyer to Seoul City Hall and schools in Seoul, and, judging the risk level to be low, have strengthened patrols in the area.
