On August 29, Pohang City held an opening ceremony for the 'Naeyeonsan Bogyeongsa Municipal Park Nature Learning Center,' which was established in Jungsan-ri, Songra-myeon, Buk-gu.
More than 200 people attended the opening ceremony, including Mayor Lee Kangdeok, City Council Chairman Kim Ilman, the chief monk of Bogyeongsa Temple, other key local figures, and citizens, to celebrate the opening.
The 'Naeyeonsan Bogyeongsa Municipal Park Nature Learning Center' covers a total area of 40,901 square meters and features five lotus ponds planted with various aquatic plants and over 20,000 lotus flowers, a decked walking trail, an observation pavilion, and an ecological learning space where forest and water harmonize.
The opening ceremony included a progress report, congratulatory speeches, a ribbon-cutting event, a tour of the nature learning center, and the release of loaches into the water.
Citizens walked through the learning center, appreciating the aquatic plants, and participated in the loach release event held in cooperation with Bogyeongsa Temple. The event served as an opportunity to reflect on the significance of ecological restoration, water quality improvement, and environmentally friendly pest control, receiving a positive response.
Mayor Lee Kangdeok stated, "The nature learning center is an open educational space where citizens can learn about ecology and experience nature," adding, "We will do our best to transform Pohang into an eco-friendly green city where nature and people coexist."
Pohang City plans to continuously expand nature-friendly facilities by creating the Lotus Flower Plaza at the entrance of the nature learning center and enhancing the existing walking trails within the forested area.
