Kyungpook National University (President: Heo Youngwoo) announced on August 29 that the Russian Eurasian Institute and the Center for GeoScience Research at the Institute for the Humanities have each been selected for the "Humanities and Social Sciences Research Institute Support Project," organized by the Ministry of Education and the National Research Foundation of Korea.
The Humanities and Social Sciences Research Institute Support Project is a program designed to support research institutes that serve as research hubs in the humanities and social sciences ecosystem, promoting pure academic research and contributing to the development of long-term educational policies.
This year, 259 projects were submitted nationwide, and 38 projects (35 in pure academic research, 3 in problem-solving research) were selected.
The selected research institutes will receive an annual average of 338 million KRW in research funding for up to six years (3+3).
With two research institutes selected in the pure academic research category, Kyungpook National University has secured up to 3.95 billion KRW in research funding.
With this selection, the Russian Eurasian Institute, led by Professor Yoon Youngsun of the Department of Russian Language and Literature, will carry out the project titled "The Age of Violence, Storytelling Humans: The Ontology of Homo Fabulans."
This project explores how humans have lived in an era of extreme violence over the past 100 years, from the 1920s to the present, by examining linguistic activities and narratives.
The Center for GeoScience Research at the Institute for the Humanities will pursue the project "Establishment of a GIS-Based Database for Integrated Archaeological and Archaeoscientific Information."
The principal investigator for this project is Professor Kwak Seunggi of the Department of Archaeology and Anthropology.
The goal of this project is to create a sustainable GIS-based database and service platform by utilizing data from archaeological site surveys and archaeoscientific analyses in Korea, and to share this resource with the academic community.
Jung Jaehoon, Dean of the College of Humanities at Kyungpook National University, stated, "This selection demonstrates that Kyungpook National University is leading research in the field of humanities, and it will serve as an important foundation for nurturing the next generation of scholars."
