Preparing for Integration in 2027
Seeking Solidarity and Joint Governance Among Student Communities
Busan National University (President Choi Jaewon) and Busan National University of Education (President Park Suja) jointly held the "2025 Busan National University-Busan National University of Education Student Council Summer Development Network Workshop" at Seongho Resort in Gyeongju from August 28 to 29, 2025. The event was organized to strengthen understanding and cooperation among student communities ahead of the two universities’ planned integration in 2027.

This workshop was hosted by the Busan National University Student Council, with the Busan National University of Education Emergency Response Committee as a co-organizer. A total of 118 participants attended, including the student councils of both universities, college student councils, club union representatives, and general students.
The event aimed to share visions and tasks for the future integrated community, and to foster unity and collaboration within the student societies.
This was the third network workshop since its inaugural session in January last year, and included special lectures on integrity education, a joint governance forum, discussions on campus exchanges and event proposals, and an ice-breaking program.
In particular, a special lecture themed "Preparing for the 2027 Integration: Building Joint Student Governance" featured student council leaders from both universities sharing their respective student self-governance structures and cultures. They discussed ways to complement each other’s academic systems and campus environments, institutionalize joint events, and establish an integrated student self-governance model that ensures diversity and autonomy.
Additionally, during group discussions in teams of ten, students proposed a number of practical joint projects, such as a "Slogan Contest for the Integrated University," "Joint Events on the Integrated Campus," and "Establishment of an Integrated SNS Promotion Channel." These ideas were presented and evaluated, generating high levels of engagement and participation.
Choi Suin, President of the Busan National University Student Council, stated, "The integration of the two schools should begin not simply as an institutional merger, but with trust and understanding within the student communities. I believe this workshop will serve as a meaningful starting point in building a shared community culture."
Lee Changgeun, Dean of Student Affairs at Busan National University (Professor of Design), emphasized, "We will provide institutional support to ensure continued solidarity and communication led by students from both universities. We also plan to steadily expand regular exchanges and policy forums."
