White House: "Trump to Address UN General Assembly on September 23"
President Lee Also Likely to Attend
U.S. President Donald Trump will deliver a speech at the United Nations (UN) General Assembly to be held in New York on the 23rd of next month (local time).
White House spokesperson Caroline Leavitt announced during a briefing on the 28th, "President Trump plans to travel to New York on September 22 and deliver a speech at the UN General Assembly on the 23rd."
During his first term in office (2017-2020), President Trump delivered speeches at the UN General Assembly on four occasions. In 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, his speech was delivered virtually.
This will be President Trump's first appearance at the UN General Assembly since his re-election, and he is expected to outline his core foreign policy initiatives during his address.
President Lee Jaemyung is also likely to attend this year's UN General Assembly high-level session, drawing attention to whether the two leaders, who met at the recent South Korea-U.S. summit in Washington, D.C., will meet again in New York after about a month.
While President Lee's attendance at the General Assembly has not been officially confirmed, there is a high possibility he will participate, as South Korea will serve as the president of the UN Security Council in September as a non-permanent member. In addition, all former presidents Yoon Sukyeol, Moon Jaein, and Park Geunhye attended and delivered speeches at the UN General Assembly in the first year of their terms, and since President Lee was inaugurated last June, his attendance is also considered highly likely.
