On August 29, the Government Public Officials Ethics Committee disclosed the assets of 50 high-ranking officials whose status changed between May 2 and June 1, including former Prime Minister Han Ducksoo, in the official gazette.
According to the Government Public Officials Ethics Committee, former Prime Minister Han reported assets totaling 8,684,660,000 won. This amount decreased by approximately 15,000,000 won compared to the regular asset disclosure in March, mainly due to changes in land value and living expenses.
Among retirees, Lee Wonmo, former Presidential Secretary for Public Discipline, reported the highest assets, totaling 43,338,830,000 won, an increase of more than 3,500,000,000 won from the previous disclosure.
The increase in assets was mostly due to changes in the value of stocks owned by his spouse and the conversion of an apartment pre-sale right in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, registered under his name, into full ownership. Lee’s wife, the daughter of the director of a major Korean medicine hospital foundation, holds 20,000 shares each in Green Myeongpum Pharmaceutical and JSD One, both unlisted companies.
Hong Chulho, founder of Goobne Chicken and former Senior Presidential Secretary for Political Affairs, followed with reported assets of 30,091,400,000 won, an increase of more than 3,900,000,000 won from the previous disclosure. The value of Plusone shares owned by Hong and his spouse rose by over 2,100,000,000 won, and the price of land located in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, and Cheongna-dong, Seo-gu, Incheon, among other areas, increased by a total of over 1,700,000,000 won.
The incumbent high-ranking official with the highest reported assets was Kwon Ig-yun, President of the Korea Institute of Geoscience and Mineral Resources under the Ministry of Science and ICT, who reported a total of 7,320,640,000 won. Kwon and his family own real estate valued at over 4,500,000,000 won, including his own apartment in Jamsil-dong, Songpa-gu, Seoul, as well as deposits totaling approximately 2,400,000,000 won.
Kim Changwon, former President of Gyeongin National University of Education under the Ministry of Education, followed with reported assets totaling 4,955,420,000 won, including a townhouse worth about 4,000,000,000 won under his and his spouse’s names.
