On August 28, Jeollanam-do held a progress report meeting at the provincial office to ensure the safe and successful hosting of the 2025 Myeongnyang Great Victory Festival as a world-class maritime cultural festival. The festival is scheduled to take place for three days from September 19 in the Uldolmok area of Haenam and Jindo, the historic site of the Myeongnyang Victory.
The meeting began with the chief director's report on the opening ceremony and official event production plans, including various programs. This was followed by discussions and Q&A sessions with festival experts. The organizers also meticulously reviewed the status of the parade and programs involving local residents, as well as the overall event operations.
Now in its 17th year, the Myeongnyang Great Victory Festival has firmly established itself as the representative maritime cultural festival of the Honam region. The opening ceremony will be held at the Usuyeong Tourist Site in Haenam.
For the first time, the main stage will be relocated to a safer and larger Usuyeong Sullae Madang in front of the sea. The stage will be designed in the shape of a Panokseon (a traditional Korean warship), offering an immersive thematic performance.
The main performance will depict the story of the Myeongnyang Great Victory in a dramatic narrative structure, vividly recreating various scenes using cutting-edge ICT technology, acrobatics, and fireworks.
The festival will also feature a wide range of hands-on programs for all visitors, whether attending with family or alone. These include a Navy military camp experience, Yi Sun-sin’s Table, general’s costume experience, and Myeongnyang children’s activities. In addition, there will be a Peace Funeral Procession with 400 local residents, the Jeonnam Youth Trot Song Festival featuring trot singer Kim Taeyeon, the Changing of the Guard ceremony, and various other cultural performances.
During the meeting, the organizers also discussed deploying more than 300 safety personnel to prevent potential accidents at the festival site, as well as expanding convenience facilities such as heat shelters to protect visitors from the heat.
Governor Kim Youngrok emphasized, "I hope that the Myeongnyang Great Victory Festival will honor Admiral Yi Sun-sin’s patriotic spirit and widely showcase Jeonnam’s cultural strength as a world-class maritime cultural festival. I urge everyone to make every effort to ensure safety management and preparations during the remaining period."
