Ha Jungwoo, AI Future Planning Chief at the Presidential Office, has announced plans to establish governance (operational and management system) for the nation’s artificial intelligence (AI) policy.
On August 28, during a workshop for Democratic Party lawmakers preparing for the regular National Assembly session held at Paradise City in Incheon, Ha delivered a lecture titled "Preparing to Become a Global Top 3 in AI," where he shared this vision.
Kim Hyunjung, the party’s spokesperson in the National Assembly, met with reporters immediately after the lecture and said, "Ha stated that he intends to systematize the currently fragmented national AI strategies and policy governance."
Ha reportedly explained that he aims to build a national AI governance structure based on three pillars: the National AI Strategy Committee chaired by the President, the Office of the AI Future Planning Chief, and central government ministries and local governments. He also revealed plans to increase investment in the AI sector next year, aiming not only for short-term results but also to strengthen competitiveness over the mid- to long-term.
Additionally, Kim said, "He mentioned that the direction for the 'Korea AI Action Plan' will be announced around next month," adding that the basic direction will focus on a people-centered approach, an inclusive 'private-public one team,' an AI-friendly government, and balanced regional development.
Meanwhile, Kim Yongbeom, Policy Chief at the Presidential Office, also attended the lecture. Kim cited the Yoon Sukyeol administration’s tight fiscal management and tax cut policies as causes of the domestic economic crisis, emphasizing, "Fiscal spending should be redesigned to promote private consumption and investment, and a circular economic model should be structured so that income leads to consumption, and consumption leads to production and employment."
