Choi Minho, Mayor of Sejong, has decided to join forces with nearby universities to create a regional educational environment that aligns with the government's "Establishing 10 Seoul National Universities" policy.
On August 28, Sejong City signed a business agreement with Chungnam National University and the Sejong Joint Campus Operating Corporation to improve the region's educational conditions and strengthen cooperation in the fields of education and research. This agreement aims to foster specialized, creative talent with interdisciplinary skills and to enhance the local educational environment through collaboration with Chungnam National University and the joint campus.
Under the agreement, the parties pledged to actively cooperate in four key areas: developing joint strategies to improve the regional educational environment; promoting joint projects for interdisciplinary creative talent development and education/research; organizing forums, academic conferences, symposiums, and other events and academic exchanges; and conducting research focused on addressing local issues.
In particular, in line with the "Establishing 10 Seoul National Universities" initiative, which has been designated as a key national policy, efforts will be made to strengthen the capabilities of local flagship universities and to lay the foundation for Sejong to grow as a city specialized in education. To this end, the city will establish an industry-academia-research-government cooperation network for the creation of a local flagship university complex and support university attraction policies such as operating education and research exchange programs.
As a regional flagship national university, Chungnam National University will explore ways to establish Sejong as a hub city for higher education and research, and will promote research aimed at solving local issues. The Sejong Joint Campus will provide support through its internal facilities and by operating academic and student exchange programs.
Mayor Choi stated, "As the risk of population decline outside the capital region intensifies, improving the educational environment in local areas has become a critical national issue. Together with Sejong Joint Campus and Chungnam National University, we will nurture high-quality talent and establish a systematic educational environment so that the region can become a mega think tank."
