World Heritage Sites Set the Stage: Jeongnimsa Temple Site, Busosanseong Fortress, Royal Tombs, and More
A Vibrant Festival with Drone Shows, Media Art, and the Baekje History Parade
This autumn, Buyeo in South Chungcheong Province will once again revive the glorious history of Baekje. The 71st Baekje Cultural Festival, which will be held for ten days from October 3 to October 12, will welcome visitors alongside the Baekje Historic Areas, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
During the day, visitors can stroll through ancient palaces and fortresses to feel the spirit of Baekje, while at night, they can enjoy a spectacular autumn evening with a drone show and fireworks set against the backdrop of Sabigung Palace.
According to Buyeo County on August 28, Buyeo is truly an "open-air museum," with the Baekje Historic Areas-including Jeongnimsa Temple Site, Gwanbuk-ri Relics and Busosanseong Fortress, Naseong City Wall, and the Royal Tombs of Buyeo-scattered throughout the city, all designated as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
The Five-story Stone Pagoda at Jeongnimsa Temple Site showcases the essence of Baekje Buddhist culture, and climbing Busosanseong Fortress brings the legend of Nakhwaam Cliff to life on the autumn breeze.
At the Royal Tombs of Buyeo, visitors can recall the artistry of the Baekje Gilt-bronze Incense Burner, a national treasure.
This year's Baekje Cultural Festival, themed "Beautiful Baekje, Shining Sabi," will be centered around the Baekje Cultural Complex. The "Welcome to Baekje" experience program, held on stages that recreate royal palaces, temples, and living spaces, is perfect for families to enjoy together.
In particular, the "Baekje History and Culture Parade," revived after eight years, the proclamation ceremony reenacting the relocation of the capital to Sabi, and a nighttime performance featuring over 1,000 drones painting the sky are expected to be the highlights of this year's festival.
A county official stated, "Buyeo is a living history textbook and an open-air museum where UNESCO World Heritage comes alive. Through this festival, visitors will be able to vividly experience the brilliant culture of Baekje."
Meanwhile, the 71st Baekje Cultural Festival will be held throughout Buyeo County-including the Baekje Cultural Complex, Gudrae, and downtown areas-from October 3 to October 12, coinciding with the Chuseok holiday.
