At approximately 4:10 p.m. on August 27, a city bus traveling straight toward Gaeumjeong-dong collided with a passenger car making a U-turn from a nearby road at the S-BRT (Super Bus Rapid Transit) section near the Citizen Sports Center intersection in Seongsan-gu, Changwon, South Gyeongsang Province.
Due to the impact between the front of the bus and the driver’s side of the car, eight out of the 19 people on the city bus, including the bus driver and passengers, sustained minor injuries and were transported to the hospital.
The driver of the passenger car, a man in his 60s identified as Mr. A, and one passenger complained of pain but were not taken to the hospital.
Traffic congestion in the area lasted for more than 20 minutes as the scene was cleared following the accident.
It was determined that neither the bus driver nor the car driver was under the influence of alcohol or driving without a license at the time of the accident.
The police believe the accident occurred because the passenger car made a U-turn in violation of traffic signals. Mr. A, the driver, has been booked without detention on charges of inflicting injury due to negligence under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Settlement of Traffic Accidents, and authorities are investigating the exact circumstances of the incident.
