Specialized Education in Marine and Culture & Arts
Nurturing Talent for Regional Strategic Industries
Busan High School and Jurye Girls' High School have been officially selected as newly designated schools for the Ministry of Education's "Autonomous Public High School 2.0" (Jagogonggo 2.0) program.
The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Kim Seokjun) announced on the 27th, "Busan High School and Jurye Girls' High School received excellent evaluations in the Ministry of Education's review process and have been designated as Jagogonggo 2.0 schools."
Jagogonggo 2.0 is a project aimed at revitalizing regional education and improving local living conditions in response to the risk of regional extinction. Last year, Busan Jang-an High School in Gijang-gun and Gyeongnam High School in western Busan were designated first.
This year, 39 schools nationwide applied, and after document screening and on-site evaluations, the Ministry of Education selected a final list of 25 schools. Busan High School and Jurye Girls' High School reportedly received high marks for their preparation and differentiated educational models.
Busan High School has established a "Marine, Ecology, and AI Convergence Curriculum" in line with the national maritime capital strategy and the relocation policy of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries. The school operates a Marine AI Convergence Program and a Climate Environment Leader Program, and has built cooperative networks with Korea Maritime & Ocean University, Pukyong National University, Dong-gu District Office, and the alumni association. The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education explained that Busan High School was recognized for its "outstanding level of preparedness" in the national evaluation.
Jurye Girls' High School will focus on a "Culture, Arts, and Digital Content Convergence Curriculum" to nurture talent for the K-content industry. The school has established educational foundations through agreements with local cultural and industrial partners, including Dongseo University, Sasang District Office, and BNK Busan Bank Joeun Theater.
Superintendent Kim Seokjun stated, "This designation marks a significant turning point for Busan's education as it leaps into the future," adding, "Busan High School and Jurye Girls' High School will successfully establish educational models tailored to the strategies of a maritime capital and a city of culture and arts, thereby contributing to balanced regional development and national strategic industries."
The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education plans to expand innovative education linked to the local community and industry based on the operational achievements of these two schools, supporting youth to take root in the region and thrive on the global stage.
