GS Engineering & Construction Pilots AI-Based Drawing Review System...Patent Application Completed

GS Engineering & Construction announced on the 27th that it has completed a pilot implementation of the construction industry's first artificial intelligence (AI)-based design drawing review system at its sites to prevent errors when reviewing structural design documents, and has also filed for a patent for the technology.

The core of this technology is its ability to automate the review and comparison of drawings based on a large language model (LLM). The AI recognizes and structures design drawings, enabling rapid and accurate error detection. It also automatically manages the history of changes by comparing existing drawings with updated ones.

Previously, there were risks of inconsistencies or errors due to the involvement of various parties in drafting structural documents and the frequent changes in design. In particular, manual comparison of drawings, which relied on human labor, increased the possibility of errors and made it difficult to manage the history of revised drawings. Work efficiency was also low.

To solve these issues, GS Engineering & Construction began developing an AI-powered structural document review system last year in collaboration with Teamwork, a startup specializing in AI solutions. The system has been piloted at select sites since this year, and the company has now completed the patent application process.

GS Engineering & Construction developed this technology with the goal of proactively preventing risks that could lead to construction errors and establishing a safe construction environment. With this technology, design changes are automatically recorded, enabling systematic version control, and a cloud-based collaborative environment allows for real-time issue sharing and smoother interdepartmental work. The company plans to expand the application of this technology to construction stages, including AI-based design adequacy reviews, drone and robot-linked automated rebar inspection, and more.

A GS Engineering & Construction representative stated, "We plan to actively introduce AI technology to repetitive or high-risk tasks to prevent human errors and industrial accidents, and to strengthen structural safety throughout the entire process from design to construction."

Meanwhile, GS Engineering & Construction is introducing AI-based tools to address various technical challenges at construction sites. The AI voice translation program 'Xyvoice' has improved communication with foreign workers, enhancing safety management, while the AI-based construction manual system 'Xybook' has enabled easy search and utilization of extensive construction standards on-site.
