"Hydrogen Leadership": Hyundai Motor Group Participates in Clean Energy Ministerial

Held at BEXCO in Busan from August 25 to 27

Hyundai Motor Group participated in a global policy conference aimed at expanding the adoption of clean energy, emphasizing the necessity of building a hydrogen ecosystem and strengthening its position as a global hydrogen leader.

On August 27, Hyundai Motor Group announced its participation in the 16th Clean Energy Ministerial. Launched in 2010, the Clean Energy Ministerial is a high-level meeting focused on sharing policies and fostering knowledge to expand the use of clean energy. This year, under the leadership of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the event is being held at BEXCO in Haeundae-gu, Busan, from August 25 to 27.

The conference brings together ministerial and vice-ministerial delegations from over 40 governments worldwide, including 29 member countries such as South Korea, the United States, China, Japan, and Brazil. Key figures from international organizations like the International Energy Agency (IEA), United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and the World Bank, as well as global corporations, are also participating to discuss the future direction of energy development.

Hyundai Motor Group participated in two of the four main areas of this conference: industrial decarbonization and energy efficiency, and the future fuels session. The company shared a range of perspectives on promoting the transition to low-carbon industries through international cooperation and building a sustainable hydrogen ecosystem.

The first session included government officials from South Korea, Germany, and Japan, as well as representatives from the Hydrogen Council, Air Liquide Korea, low-carbon technology company Topsoe, Nippon Steel, Apple, and about ten other companies and international organizations.

Ken Ramirez, Vice President of Hyundai Motor Group's Energy & Hydrogen Business Division, who attended the meeting, stated, "For hydrogen to serve as a competitive energy source, both the public and private sectors must work together to establish infrastructure, investment, and policy that link financial support and industrial development." He added, "To build a hydrogen ecosystem, we must simultaneously pursue demand creation and supply expansion."

In the subsequent future fuels session, Hyundai Motor Group highlighted its hydrogen technology and business progress, stressing the need to establish a clean hydrogen certification system and mutual evaluation standards that all countries can use, in order to secure price competitiveness and build supply chains for the development of the hydrogen industry.

Hyundai Motor Group is providing 32 Nexo hydrogen fuel cell vehicles as the official protocol vehicles for this conference, as well as for other major energy-related events being held in Busan this week, including the Mission Innovation Ministerial and the 15th APEC Energy Ministerial Meeting.

This marks the first time hydrogen fuel cell vehicles are being used as official protocol vehicles at major international events. Hyundai Motor Group aims to widely promote the outstanding qualities of eco-friendly vehicles while sharing its vision for a sustainable future.
