Since 2023, the district has formed a preparatory committee for the establishment of the association, consisting of representatives from disability organizations and experts, and has held a total of seven working meetings to proceed with the necessary procedures. With this launch, the sports activities of approximately 10,000 people with disabilities in Seocho District are expected to be revitalized, bringing the district closer to realizing an integrated sports culture where people with and without disabilities can enjoy activities together.
The event was held in two parts: the inaugural general meeting and the launch ceremony. The launch ceremony was attended by over 200 people, including Seocho District Mayor Jeon Seongsu, distinguished guests from inside and outside the district, and local residents, who gathered to celebrate the beginning of the Disabled Sports Association.
The executive board is composed of 15 members, including District Mayor Jeon Seongsu as the ex officio president, as well as athletes with disabilities, representatives from disability organizations, and business leaders. Based on a public-private cooperation system, they plan to promote systematic activities such as fostering sports organizations by discipline, dispatching community sports instructors, and supporting participation in sports competitions for people with disabilities. Through these efforts, they aim to enhance the quality of life for people with disabilities and expand opportunities for participation in community sports.
District Mayor Jeon Seongsu emphasized, “With the launch of the Disabled Sports Association, we will create a healthy sports culture where people with and without disabilities can come together,” adding, “We will build a community where everyone participates, so that sports can serve not only to improve health but also as a medium to build relationships and connect hearts.”
