This event is particularly significant as it is the first overnight, two-day camp in Korea designed exclusively for international students at a domestic university. While various orientations and short-term cultural experience programs for international students have been offered at Korean universities, Shinhan University is the first to organize a long-term camp that includes overnight stays and brings together both regular and external international students.
The camp is themed "UON (You On)," with the intention of "turning on the potential of youth." Shinhan University aims to create a participatory festival where international students are not just passive attendees but active participants. The university seeks to establish a global youth platform that embraces diverse cultures beyond differences in nationality, language, and religion.
The camp's program includes an opening ceremony and orientation, followed by a variety of activities: team-building recreation and the "Infinite Challenge" program, selective special lectures in seven fields, the "On Concert" global performance, a campfire, and the E-Sports & Film Festival "Romantic Cinema." The selective special lectures are expected to receive a strong response as they cover practical topics needed by international students, such as career and entrepreneurship, university student makeup and personal color, AI education, special lectures from various embassies (including China, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, etc.), and influencer guest lectures, focusing on career paths, culture, and networking.
The main event, "On Concert," will feature performances by the Shinhan University Taekwondo demonstration team, K-POP dance performances, renowned drummers and dance crews, as well as a DJ show. Special guests will include the girl group STAYC and international student talent show teams, raising the excitement among participants. In the evening, a campfire will be held on the sports field, spreading a message of friendship and unity among international students that transcends nationality and language, symbolized by the flames rising into the night sky.
On the second day, September 7, the schedule includes a talk show with Olympic medalists, E-Sports matches (League of Legends, with additional arrangements ongoing), an awards ceremony, group commemorative photo, and a closing ceremony featuring the university anthem. Through these programs, participants are expected to learn about each other's cultures, build connections, and find opportunities to integrate more deeply into Korean society.
President Kang Sungjong stated, "This camp is highly significant as it is the first overnight event for international students held by a domestic university. Beyond being a simple welcome program, it will serve as a practical opportunity for international students to learn, network, and plan their futures in Korea."
He added, "In line with the theme of 'turning on You,' Shinhan University will actively support each student's potential so they can grow into global leaders."
The 2025 Shinhan University International Student Camp "UON Fall Semester Special" is expected to draw participation from over 1,000 international and Korean students. Starting with this camp, Shinhan University plans to realize a "global multicultural campus" and further establish itself as a youth global platform, "Shinhan."
