West Sea Coast Guard Agency Announces Second Half Comprehensive Maritime Training

The West Sea Coast Guard Agency announced on August 26 that it will conduct the second half comprehensive maritime training for its affiliated stations from August 27 to October 29.

This training will focus on strengthening field-oriented response capabilities for 64 patrol vessels and 70 teams from Gunsan, Buan, Mokpo, Wando, and Yeosu Coast Guard stations. The main components include integrated maritime drills, scenario-free training to ensure effective responses in real-life situations, and repeated mastery of procedures by field, all aimed at enhancing practical response skills.

Through training tailored to the characteristics of each maritime area, the agency will evaluate performance in 10 categories that frequently occur within its jurisdiction, such as maritime search and firefighting on other vessels. The results will be used to select outstanding vessels within the West Sea Coast Guard Agency.

Additionally, the training will simulate real-life procedures, such as flooding and sinking scenarios, to ensure immediate response to six major types of maritime accidents: sinking, collision, grounding, fire, capsizing, and flooding. The drills will cover onboard entry and evacuation guidance, rescue operations using small boats, and firefighting on burning vessels.

A representative from the West Sea Coast Guard Agency stated, "Through practical maritime training, we will ensure the ability to respond swiftly to any emergency situation," adding, "We will do our utmost to protect the lives and property of the public through rapid rescue readiness."
