Siheung City Strengthens Exchanges and Cooperation with Local Governments from Six Northeast Asian Countries

Siheung City in Gyeonggi Province is strengthening exchanges with local governments in major Northeast Asian countries, including China and Japan.

On August 26, a delegation from Siheung City, including Mayor Im Byungtaek, participated in the "4th Northeast Asia Regional Cooperation Roundtable" held at the Shangri-La Hotel in Changchun, China, where they discussed ways to expand regional cooperation and exchanges.

Themed "Promoting Quality Exchanges and Cooperation, Pioneering a Beautiful Future for Northeast Asia," the conference was attended by more than 160 participants, including heads of local governments from six countries-South Korea, China, Russia, North Korea, Mongolia, and Japan-as well as major business leaders and representatives from international organizations. From South Korea, Siheung City, Seoul's Eunpyeong and Gwanak Districts, and Gangwon Province took part.

The conference was organized into three parts. The first part, the opening ceremony, featured a keynote speech by the Vice Governor of Jilin Province, China, speeches by representatives from each country, and congratulatory remarks from the Secretary Generals of the Association of North East Asia Regional Governments (NEAR) and the Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS). The second part, the economic and trade promotion session, included introductions of major Northeast Asian projects and business matching consultations. In the third part, a working luncheon, participants from each country-including the Vice President of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries-engaged in free networking and discussed long-term cooperation strategies.

The Siheung City delegation shared regional development strategies and examples of exchanges during the main session and networking opportunities with delegations from other countries, exploring possibilities for cooperation in the economic, cultural, and industrial sectors.

Mayor Im stated, "This conference was a meaningful occasion to deepen friendly cooperative relations with cities across Northeast Asia and to prepare for the future together," adding, "Based on these discussions, the city will further broaden the scope of international cooperation."

The Siheung City delegation is scheduled to visit the "15th Northeast Asia Expo" at the Changchun International Convention and Exhibition Center on August 27, where they will tour the national economic and industrial trade pavilions, including the Korea Pavilion.
