Busan Veterans Office Presents Presidential Citation to Family of Late Independence Activist Sangyeop Lee

Expelled for Participating in Student Strike
Honoring Sangyeop Lee's Devotion to National Independence

The Busan Regional Office of Veterans Affairs (Director Namil Lee) announced on August 26 that it presented the Presidential Citation to Younghee Lee, the daughter of the late independence activist Sangyeop Lee.

During June 1928 in Busan, Gyeongnam, Sangyeop Lee, then a fourth-year student at Busan Second Public Commercial School, actively led the anti-Japanese movement by participating in a student strike demanding the exclusion of Japanese teachers and the purchase of Korean-language books. As a result, he was expelled from school.

Namil Lee, Director of the Busan Regional Office of Veterans Affairs, stated, "We will do our utmost to honor independence activists and their families, and strive to promote the achievements of independence activists."
