On the 26th, more than 60mm of heavy rain per hour poured down in Gwangju and Jeonnam, but the heat did not subside.

According to the Gwangju Regional Meteorological Administration, as of 1 p.m. on this day, major rainfall amounts by location were 61.5mm in Haeje, Muan; 48.5mm at Mudeungsan, Gwangju; 41mm at Chosun University, Gwangju; and 39.5mm in Damyang. The highest hourly rainfall recorded in the morning was 61mm in Haeje, Muan; 42mm at Mudeungsan, Gwangju; and 30mm on Nakwol Island, Yeonggwang.

Due to the short but intense downpour, there were seven cases of safety measures such as residential drainage support carried out in Gwangju alone. There were no casualties or property damage. The rain is expected to continue and stop repeatedly until the evening commute. In some areas, including northern Jeonnam, more than 80mm of rain is expected.

Despite the rain, the heatwave persists. As of 1 p.m., the highest temperatures reached 33.9 degrees Celsius in Podu, Goheung, and 32.9 degrees at the Jeonnam Provincial Government, with most areas recording between 31 and 33 degrees. High humidity made the perceived temperature even higher. A heatwave advisory remains in effect for all 22 cities and counties in Gwangju and Jeonnam, with warnings and advisories maintained in some regions.

An official from the Korea Meteorological Administration stated, "Even within the same city, county, or district, there may be significant differences in rainfall. Please check the latest weather information and be mindful of safety accidents."
