Jeong Cheongrae, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, highly praised President Lee Jaemyung's "peacemaker-pacemaker" remarks during his meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, describing them as a demonstration of "strategic negotiation skills."
On the 25th (local time), President Lee Jaemyung held his first summit with President Trump since taking office. During the meeting, he actively requested that Trump play the role of "peacemaker" by engaging with North Korean State Affairs Commission Chairman Kim Jong Un. After confirming President Trump's willingness to engage in dialogue, President Lee explained the significance of resuming the North Korea-U.S. summit. In response, President Trump said, "That's a very good thing," and expressed his intention to pursue it. Notably, President Lee told Trump, "If you become the peacemaker, I will support you as the pacemaker."
On the 26th, Jeong Cheongrae stated on his social networking service (SNS) account, "President Lee is skillfully guiding the conversation by choosing topics and words that appeal to Trump," adding, "He is praising President Trump as a global ambassador of peace (peacemaker) and successfully drawing out North Korea-U.S. dialogue." He also said, "President Lee Jaemyung's peacemaker-pacemaker remarks were a strategic statement, fully demonstrating his abilities as a negotiator, and I highly appreciate this moment."

He also applauded President Lee Jaemyung's proposal to build a Trump World golf resort in North Korea. Jeong Cheongrae said, "President Lee's suggestion to 'build Trump World in North Korea and let him play golf' must have caught Trump's attention. I believe he offered a great idea to President Trump, who views politics like business," and added, "The fact that President Trump immediately responded positively and expressed his desire to meet Kim Jong Un within this year could become the greatest achievement of this summit."
He analyzed that future South Korea-U.S. relations and peace on the Korean Peninsula are likely to move in a positive direction. Jeong stated, "If President Trump attends the APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) summit in Gyeongju this October, there is a high possibility he will make active statements or take actions regarding North Korea-U.S. dialogue. If North Korea-U.S. talks resume once again after the Hanoi no-deal, it will greatly contribute to peace on the Korean Peninsula," adding, "I believe President Lee Jaemyung boldly captured President Trump's attention by using content and methods that Trump prefers."
In conclusion, he said, "If President Trump's North Korea-U.S. dialogue is realized, there will be significant progress in inter-Korean relations, North Korea-U.S. relations, and South Korea-U.S. relations in political, military, and economic terms. President Lee Jaemyung is truly smart. I believe he demonstrated his negotiation skills through very strategic language choices. I wish for the success of President Lee Jaemyung's South Korea-U.S. summit."
