At an executive order signing ceremony held at the White House that day, President Trump responded to reporters' questions by saying, "In fact, I am looking forward to meeting with Chairman Kim," expressing his expectations.

He said, "I have a very good relationship with Chairman Kim," and added, "Someday, I will see him again." He continued, "We have held two summits and got along very well," and remarked, "I know him better than anyone, except for his sister."

He mentioned former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, saying, "If she had won (the 2016 presidential election), we would have gone through a nuclear war." He went on to claim, "Since I took office, there have only been a lot of rocket launches, but there have been no problems related to that."
