No Government Building Closures
Late-Night Access Restrictions Follow Internal Regulations...
Attempts to Exploit Special Prosecutor's Investigation
The Seoul Metropolitan Government has strongly refuted the Democratic Party of Korea's claim that local government heads affiliated with the People Power Party closed their government buildings and held emergency meetings immediately after former President Yoon Suk-yeol declared martial law, calling the allegation "groundless."
On the 25th, Kim Byungmin, Deputy Mayor for Political Affairs of Seoul, issued a statement criticizing, "Assemblyman Kim Byungjoo of the Democratic Party called for an investigation, alleging that local government heads from the People Power Party actively supported martial law immediately after the December 3 Martial Law. However, this is nothing more than a shallow attempt to exploit the special prosecutor's investigation for political gain."
Deputy Mayor Kim explained, "The Seoul Metropolitan Government has never closed its government building," adding, "Even under normal circumstances, access is restricted during late-night hours according to established internal regulations, and entry is permitted only to those with access cards."
He further pointed out, "Nevertheless, the Democratic Party is spreading fake news without any fact-checking," and added, "If we follow President Lee Jaemyung's remarks about holding people accountable for media distortion, Assemblyman Kim's claim is a textbook example of a statement warranting accountability."
The Seoul Metropolitan Government also stated, "We strongly condemn this low-level political offensive that seeks to amplify the special prosecutor's investigation through baseless suspicions and to frame opposition-affiliated local government heads for insurrection."
Previously, Assemblyman Kim Byungjoo of the Democratic Party of Korea urged a special prosecutor's investigation into suspicions that local government heads from the People Power Party in Seoul, Gangwon, Daegu, and North Gyeongsang Province closed their government buildings immediately after the December 3 Martial Law was declared, raising concerns about their possible support for martial law.
