A Warm Shelter Built Together
Overcoming Hardship as One
Cheongsong County in North Gyeongsang Province held a completion ceremony for the remodeling of the Jungpyeong-ri Senior Center on August 22.
The event was attended by more than 100 people, including Yoon Kyunghee, the Mayor of Cheongsong County; Shim Sanghyu, Chairman of the Cheongsong County Council; Shin Hyogwang, a member of the North Gyeongsang Provincial Council; Yoon Youngkyung, Vice Chairman of the Cheongsong County Council; all members of the Cheongsong County Council; and local residents.
The Jungpyeong-ri Senior Center is a facility that was expanded and remodeled from the village hall through the joint efforts of the county and the local community after the original building was completely destroyed by a large wildfire in March 2025. With the completion of this project, the senior center has been transformed into a new space for seniors to enjoy leisure activities, foster harmony, and communicate with one another.
The ceremony included a congratulatory address by the head of the senior citizens' association and a speech by the mayor. Attendees celebrated the establishment of a new gathering place for seniors and wished them health and happiness.
Shin Myunghee, head of the senior citizens' association, said, "Although we faced great difficulties due to the wildfire, I am delighted that, thanks to the help of many people, we now have a comfortable place to gather again. I would like to express my deep gratitude to everyone who has shown support and care."
Mayor Yoon Kyunghee stated, "I hope the Jungpyeong-ri Senior Center will become a place where seniors can enjoy leisure activities in a pleasant environment and where exchanges and unity among residents are further enhanced. We will continue to do our utmost to improve the welfare of our seniors."
