"First In-House Graduate School in Korea" LG AI Graduate School to Open in September

Recruiting 30 Students for the Master's Program in Artificial Intelligence

The LG AI Graduate School, established to train professionals in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), will open next month. As the first in-house graduate school in Korea to be accredited by the Ministry of Education, graduates will be recognized as having the same academic credentials and degrees as those who complete a traditional graduate program.

On the 24th, LG announced that the Ministry of Education had approved the establishment of the LG AI Graduate School, an in-house graduate institution applied for by the LG Management Development Institute AI Research Center. Since its founding in 2022, the LG AI Graduate School has now gained legal status as a lifelong education institution authorized to confer master's and doctoral degrees. This marks the first time an in-house graduate school has been accredited in Korea.

Until now, companies could only establish in-house colleges, which are lifelong education facilities recognized as equivalent to junior college or university degrees. However, with the implementation of the Special Act on Advanced Industry Talent Innovation in January of this year, companies can now establish in-house graduate schools as well. These institutions, set up and operated directly by companies in advanced industries with Ministry of Education approval, are designed to train employees as master's- or doctoral-level professionals and confer graduate-level academic credentials.

The LG AI Graduate School, with the goal of "cultivating top AI talent equipped with both domain knowledge and AI capabilities," will open on September 30 at K-Square Magok in Gangseo-gu, Seoul. Here, "domain" refers to the business areas within each industry where AI technology is actually applied. The school plans to recruit 30 students for its master's program in artificial intelligence and will begin the full curriculum in March next year. The faculty will be comprised of emerging researchers from leading domestic and international research institutions, industry professionals, and members of the LG AI Research Center.

Following the launch of the master's program in artificial intelligence, the LG Management Development Institute AI Research Center has also submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Education to establish a doctoral program, which will undergo review for future approval.

The first dean of the graduate school will be Lee Honglak, co-director of the LG AI Research Center. Dean Lee emphasized, "The LG AI Graduate School is a convergence platform connecting industry, research, and education. By completing and continuously advancing LG's full-cycle AI education ecosystem, we aim to contribute to enhancing the nation's AI competitiveness in the long term."
