A report was received that the owner entered a foreign female guest's room without permission at an accommodation in Junggu, Incheon, prompting the police to investigate the matter.
On August 23, the Incheon Jungbu Police Station announced that they are conducting an internal investigation into a man in his 60s, identified as Mr. A, on suspicion of trespassing. Mr. A is accused of entering the room of Ms. B, a woman in her 20s of Chinese nationality who was staying at the guesthouse he operates, without her permission.
A report was received that the owner entered a foreign female guest's room without permission at an accommodation in Junggu, Incheon, prompting the police to investigate the matter.
The incident occurred around 3 a.m. on August 20. The victim had been staying at the accommodation since around midnight, and on the morning of the incident, she reportedly received a message from Mr. A asking, "Are you sleeping?" Ms. B stated that she did not reply and was lying on her bed when, shortly after, the password door lock to her room was opened and Mr. A entered the room.
Upon receiving the report, the police immediately arrived at the scene, accompanied Mr. A to the police station, and obtained the victim's statement through an interpreter. During the investigation, Ms. B stated, "Since I am not fluent in Korean, I tried to avoid the situation by saying 'sorry,' but Mr. A entered the bedroom, which made me feel afraid."
Ms. B also shared details of the incident on the Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu immediately after it happened. In her post, she wrote, "I felt extreme fear due to the sudden intrusion and barely managed to resist before seeking help from the police." She added, "Afterwards, Mr. A sent me messages saying, 'I did it because I liked you,' and 'It was because of alcohol and medication,' but his actions cannot be justified for any reason."
Some of the messages released by Ms. B included Mr. A's explanations such as, "I just wanted to talk more," and "I only wanted to discuss business." However, Ms. B emphasized, "No excuse is acceptable," and stated, "I do not seek compensation or a settlement. I just hope that other female travelers do not experience the same harm."
The police are currently working to clarify the facts and are investigating whether Mr. A's actions constitute a sex crime, in addition to interviewing the victim.
A police official stated, "The investigation began with Mr. A voluntarily accompanying officers at the scene, and we will determine whether to apply charges depending on the progress of the investigation."
